The Hershey Company's Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are an American delicacy consisting of a chocolate cup filled with peanut butter. On November 15, 1928, they were developed by H. B. Reese, a former dairy farmer and Milton S. Hershey's shipping foreman. Reese quit his position at Hershey to launch his own candy company. The Hershey Company produces more than $2 billion in annual sales from Reese's, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the best-selling confectionery brand. In 1928, the H.B. Goodrich Company introduced the first Peanut Butter Cup, a peanut butter and chocolate treat. Reese's Candy Company is a candy company founded by Reese's because the confection could be purchased for one penny at the time, the official product name was "Penny Cups”. The H.B. Hershey Company bought the H.B. Hershey Company in 1963. From H.B. Reese comes the Reese Candy Company. The sons of Reese. Since then, the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup product range has expanded to include a variety of product varieties, including chocolate or candy coatings, varied sizes, and seasonal holidays and events. As the popularity of these variations grew, they quickly gained a permanent place in the product portfolio. The first non-original Reese's Peanut Butter Cup product brand variation, "Reese's Crunchy," was introduced in 1976. The crunchy peanut butter creme in the Reese's Crunchy product brand variation was different from the smooth peanut butter creme in the original Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. The Hershey Company introduced a product variation in July 2016 that combined two Reese's products: Reese's Pieces and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter Cups are a new product brand variant that consists of the traditional Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with Reese's Pieces candy blended in to the peanut butter filling. The Hershey Company announced the launch of "Reese's Big Cups with Pretzels," a new product variation on the Reese's Peanut Butter Big Cup that will incorporate pretzel pieces within the peanut butter creme filling, in September 2020. At the same time, Hershey announced a limited-edition Big Cup called "Big Cup with Chips," which will be a Reese's Big Cup with potato chips blended into the peanut butter cream filling and will be available in March 2021.
